JD Sports or JD, is a British sports-fashion retail company based in Bury, Greater Manchester, England with shops throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Asia, New Zealand and Australia. After piloting a range of electronic locker systems, Click n Collect came out on top as the preferred choice for a national roll out.

Officeworks is Australia’s largest office and home office supplies retailer.  This client has 167 store locations throughout Australia and employs over 7,000 staff.  Office works wanted to grow their sales by introducing a national courier service in competition with Australia Post.

The Problem

In 2012, Officeworks contacted Click n Collect, after Officeworks previously selected supplier was unable to perform on the technical piece of this project.  The project involved creating a national parcel delivery service through a highly automated parcel despatch locker system.

The Click n Collect Solution

The project required a close working relationship between Officeworks, Click n Collect, and the courier service teams in order to develop this customised solution of hardware, software and national 24/7 courier delivery service.

To meet the project objectives the locker system needed to be:

  • Cost effective and meet the set ROI benchmarks.
  • Able to seamlessly communicate with multiple parties.
  • Extremely reliable and easy to operate without involvement of any store staff.
  • Handle all high-volume parcels sizes and shapes including long tubes.

The solution developed uses prepaid Officeworks postage labels which are attached to the parcels the customers would like to send.  When the parcels are presented at the locker, it validates the label, accepts the parcel and prints a parcel deposit receipts for the customer. The receipt also provides the customer with an estimated time of arrival.  At the same time the courier company is notified to pick up the parcel. The customer will be updated as the parcel progresses through the delivery process.

The ongoing Click n Collect support for this project, includes a remote management dashboard that provide full transparency of all the locker activities, 24/7 helpdesk support, preventative maintenance and hardware support.  It also includes continual review and improvement meetings as required, which have led to additional features such a provision for Virtual Lockers that manages parcels that are too large to fit any locker compartment (such as office desks, etc.).

A critical deliverable within this project briefing was that the roll out across all 167 Officeworks store locations had to be achieved within 8 weeks, to coincide with a national launch. This critical timeframe included custom manufacturing, shipping, local delivery to all capital cities and remote store locations, installation, testing and staff training.  Click and Collect successfully manufactured, delivered and installed all 167 locker systems within an 8-week time frame!

Blusion Laundry

Click n Collect was approached by a laundry operator “Blusion” in Atlanta, USA, to help them increase their sales, and achieve full plant capacity.


The Problem

The Blusion Managing Director shared that he wanted to increase his sales as his wash and fold processing plant in Atlanta had spare capacity.  Instead of opening more laundry shopfronts and having to absorb the additional associated rent, fit out and staffing expenses, he was looking for a more economical and innovative way to increase his sales and expand his catchment area.

The Click n Collect Solution

Click n Collect assisted Blusion with an expansion plan that, instead of opening new stores, would place outdoor laundry lockers in strategic catchment areas such as hospitals, parking facilities, residential developments, military bases and colleges.  Together we designed a custom-built laundry locker that specifically fitted Blusion’s laundry bags, adapted the locker software to integrate with Blusion’s laundry software platform and altered the customers’ locker interface to suit the requested customer transaction process and experience.

Now the Blusion customers can drop off their dirty wash at more conveniently located locker drop off points around Atlanta by simply scanning their bag with dirty wash into their nearest locker.  This alerts Blusion to then pick up the dirty wash from the same locker, process it at their wash and fold processing plant and return it to the locker.  Once the in specially designed Blusion bags with the freshly cleaned and folded clothing is scanned back into the locker the customer receives a message that their clothing is ready for pick up.

Blusion now has a cost-efficient way to build sales and at the same time maximise processing plant capacity.


Blusion now has the option to fine tune the size of its sales network, locker by locker, until it has reached its full wash and fold processing plant capacity, without having to incur the large overheads related to opening new laundry shopfronts.  Since the first installed laundry locker Blusion has now expanded into the state of Florida and there are further plans to roll out the wash and fold business across the USA.”

CSR Gyprock

CSR Gyprock is Australia’s leading manufacturer of building industry products such as plasterboard, compounds, adhesives, and associated finishing materials. They distribute their product through 94 Gyprock Trade store locations throughout Australia and they were looking for a way to service their accounts outside normal trading hours.

The Problem

As Gyprock supplies property developers and builders their product must be available 7 days per week, in order not to delay building projects. However, the trade stores operate within restricted trading hours.

The Click n Collect Solution

Gyprock specified to Click n Collect Pty Ltd they needed a solution that is able to:
• Accommodate 80% of the Gyprock product range, including handling plasterboard sheeting of up to 3 meters and plaster buckets weighing up to 50kg.
• Be placed anywhere outdoors
• Withstand rough handling relating to the materials transacted and the building site environments they could be placed at.
• Expand the transaction capacity to match different sales volumes.
• Be easily installed and removed from building sites to facilitate onsite Gyprock sales during construction.
• A software platform that would integrate with Gyprock’s POS and online system to allow tradies to order online or in store
• Operate 24/7.

The project requirements by Gyprock were all met by Click n Collect and Gyprock has now extended its trading hours and distribution volume with tradies that can collect their orders at any time from the locker on their way to a job or at their building site.
